Another cracking campaign! Really tense finish, and well-told as always!

Re: Skirmishers query

Because in this era skirmishers were mostly young lads hucking sticks at the opposing side. They are more of an annoyance than any kind of serious threat.

FWIW, skimisher units should be your go-to for things like herding cattle or arson. They are much better suited to those roles.

Re: Last Stand on Opium Hill campaign (updated 21 11 20)

To get a sense of topography it is worth going in to Google maps and look up Pasir Panjang pillbox (it is still there), then do a street view from the pillbox (which can be hard to spot, it's surrounded by a green fence), despite modern development its easy to see how flat the surrounding area is a...

Re: Armored Platoon Command Dice

Play Totensonntag and see how often the poor German Tank platoon struggles to activate against the Green South Africans in the open ;) Rolling multiple 4's when you only have 1 Sl really hurts and once you start getting shock on the tanks the JL's are hard pressed to do what you want them to as wel...

Re: Handling Turns different

Time sensitivity works better across multiple scenarios in a campaign than it does within a single scenario. Although that said, I think that the Blitzkrieg scenario in the 1940 handbook does a decent job of reflecting a time pressure.

Re: Last Stand on Opium Hill campaign (updated 21 11 20)

Oooof, rough game! One thing you mentioned on your blog sort of stood out to me: "The other problem with this game in particular is that there is no decent cover from which to fire other than the hut. I'm going to have to scratch my head about how to tackle this one." I think a huge factor in this i...

Re: SETTING THE SCENE

I have both, and both are fantastic. EDIT: A little more detail - the books are an excellent reference, and really go into step-by-step detail for how to build and paint a variety of different terrain features. The techniques are easy to replicate and produce a great effect on the table. Clear illus...

Re: FO replacement

Deploying a squad as bait is also a very "gamey" tactic. It's one thing to make a feint , it's quite another to simply expect a squad to get chewed up. That's...generally not how real militaries operate. And FWIW, I think CoC is a well-designed system in that it punishes this kind of a-historical ga...
